V festival ticket (Chelmsford) for sale
Hey folks, a rarity post from me. dawnage has a spare ticket to the V festival on Sunday 22nd August and needs to get shot of it. She can even provide you with a lift if you can get yourself to Eltham (zone 4, South London). The lineup kicks donkey ( http://www.vfestival.com/vfestival/pages/index.cfm left hand side). Unless you are a goth of course. But then if you are a goth you probably wouldn't want the fresh air anyhow. Cost is £52.50. Laters folks The Rick | | Thursday, December 11th, 2003 | | 11:45 pm |

Pub Quiz
Ooooh. A post. Pub Quiz at the Fox tomorrow if anyone is interested. Alexander, if you can drag yourself from your Barbe-Reich (only kidding - that flamewar is way too hot to cook on), could you remember to bring Black and White with you? Laters folk | | Monday, June 9th, 2003 | | 7:44 pm |

Drunken bird in my bed
Thought I was drunk this evening til I picked up Dawnage. I had gone to see Saints at Fulham while she had gone drinking with her parents. Was round at my mates house (where dawn was supposed to join me) when I got a drunken phone call from dawn's dad asking me to come and pick her up from leicester square. Is it just me or do drunk people seem to weigh 10 times as much as when they are sober? Best bit is that tomorrow morning I will have to attend to her hangover. Pancakes
Anyone who finds themselves in Finsbury Park tomorrow evening is cordially invited to dine at the frying pan of the gods. Lemon and sugar will be provided - if you want any other fillings (thus displaying a total lack of class) bring them yourselves. An idea of numbers would be helpful. Kick off 7pm. Annual post
Given that I only post once a month, this ought to be filled with earth-shatteringly inciteful odds and sods. But it's not. So there. Sat at home alone cause my conscience is making me march tomorrow and there is no march in Manchester. Faaakin' Northern Monkeys... Managed to get 2 valentine's cards today. One was posted from Manchester and written in Dawn's handwriting. The other arrived at my work, posted from South London. The handwriting was almost entirely unlike Dawn's and for brief moments I worried that it may have been sent by my stalker (a 16 year old I teach). The writing was blatantly 16 year old girl, from the circles which replaced dots on the letter 'i' to the nauseously teenaged SWALK on the reverse of the envelope. Unfortunately Dawn slipped up in a couple of areas: firstly the message 'dump ur missis' using txt msg shorthand over-egged the pudding a little and her choice of card was waaaaaay too tasteful for the stalker (who would have sent something garish with a teddy bear on, probably). Finally, dawn had forgotten to write the college's name on the envelope and her mother had to add it before posting from Eltham. Nevertheless, I really appreciate the depth of thought that went into her deception... Current Music: Silverchair - Anthem for the year 2000 | | Monday, February 3rd, 2003 | | 10:33 pm |
VNV Nation...
OK, I have just downloaded 'Dark Angel' and, at the risk of offending VNV Natives, I would like to know if all their music sounds like sub-Depeche-Mode-gothic-low-fi-techno? | | Tuesday, January 21st, 2003 | | 7:12 pm |
Music thingy (nicked from neenaw Which song: 1. Reminds you of an ex: One for every ex. Most recently (Psycho Joe) that cheesy house number with a sample of the music from American Beauty. You'd know it when you heard it. 2. Reminds you of an ex-friend: I don't really do ex-friends. 3. Makes you cry: Don't blubber much these days, but when I was 17 I used to get drunk and morose, slink off into a corner and get weepy over 'Something I can never have' by Nine Inch Nails (see below) 4. Makes you laugh: Bill Bailey's various tunes, not excluding his heavy metal classic with the lyrics: "I am Death, the Winged Beast, I am born on the Velvet wing of night and I'm hungry for a feast! I am the nemesis of the Vole! My heart's as black as coal! You can kill me with a trowel, I am an Owl" 5. Makes you smile: Many tunes will make me smile, but the chirpy silliness of Presidents of the USA tends to perk me up a treat. 6. You never want to hear again: Anything by Aqua. It reminds me of an 8 hour minibus ride in Thailand, where the driver looked at all the farang he was transported and assumed we would like to hear his only European pop tape on a constant loop. 7. You want to get married to: Dunno, though when I think of marriage all I hear is the melodramatic 'Dah dah daaaaaaah!' chord sequence used by Graham Norton et al. 8. You like to wake up to: I tend to put the tv on to Breakfast News during the week. Don't really do mornings at the w/e, though if dawnage is round I get Jonathan Ross's eclectic Saturday morning show. 9. You like out of your parents record collection: Bach, Tchaikovsky, Simon and Garfunkel (well, they are old...) 10. You love that you wouldn't know about if it wasn't for a friend: 'Fluke', introduced to me by Tall Swedish Linda at the Stanmer Park Festival in 1996, and indirectly 'The Egg' who I discovered at a Fluke gig. 11. Reminds you of your first love: 'Something I can never have', by Nine Inch Nails. At the time it seemed like love. At the time she was something I could never have. Oh the joy of teenaged angst... 12. First serious relationship?: 'The Sea' by Morcheeba. Odile introduced me to the band and it always reminds me of Brighton (where she lived). 13. Reminds you of your current missus: 'Ice, Ice Baby' by Vanilla Ice. Last November we did Japanese Karaoke (where you get a private room - surprisingly good fun, honest) with a load of friends. Dawn stole the show with her rendition of the above, which she used to practice with her brother when she was younger, apparently. 14. Makes you think of sex: I am a man. I think about sex the whole time. 15. Makes you think of being alone: 'Summertime Rolls' by Jane's Addiction, though not 'alone' in a negative sense, just a moment to myself kinda thing. 16. Are you embarrassed to admit you like: Sugarbabes - Freak like Me (though I first heard that on X-fm, so it can't be that bad...) 17. Perks you up: 'Drop Zone' by Gridlok. Really grindy, siren screechy, down and dirty jungle. 3:27 of pure bounce. 18. Do you love to sing: Too many to mention. 'Touch me, I'm Sick' by Mudhoney, 'Geek USA' by the Smashing Pumpkins, anything by the Presidents of the USA etc... Blatant Blaggage
OK, idea borrowed from neenaw, a lyrics quiz for y'all. I will be impressed if anyone gets them all... 1) Like Kurosawa I make mad films, okay I don't make films, but if I did they'd have a Samurai 2) Lover, lover let's pretend we were born as innocents, cast into the world with apple eyes. 3) Well I've been bad, and I've been worse, and I'm a creep, and I'm a jerk. 4) Pig eats shit, only when he hungers 5) Connector in, receiver out, you let me in through the back door 6) You spent the weekend flailing round my trailer, I had to tie you down and strap on your inhaler. 7) The air was thick with cat calls, no pun intended 8) Please could you stop the noise I'm trying to get some rest, from all the unborn chicken voices in my head. 9) You were the first girl at school to get breasts, and Martin said that you were the best, 10) I got 2 pale hands up against the window pane, I shaking like the heat of my need again. | | Tuesday, December 17th, 2002 | | 9:45 pm |
Rant and Pub Quiz
Rant: 2 days to go til the end of term and the students are winding me up something rotten. Their brains are already on holiday and they are behaving like a bunch of cunts - one group, my GCSE resitters, have the social skills of 5 year olds, but without any of the redeeming features. Pub Quiz: Tomorrow (Wednesday) at the usual place. dawnage and myself will be there (Alexander, you haven't replied to Dawn's text). Bear in mind that the last time we took part, the team won the £125 jackpot (well, there is simply no end to the general knowledge of teachers) Current Mood: ViolentCurrent Music: Goldfinger (remix) - Propellerheads | | Saturday, December 7th, 2002 | | 10:26 am |
My monthly update
Life is trundling along. The intensive workload of teaching full time, teacher training part time and tutoring kids in the evenings leaves me with little time for anything else these days. It's bizarre, in previous years I have always looked forward to the christmas holidays. This year thoughts of the holiday just remind me of how much I have to do before then. Still, ne'ermind eh? On a more positive holiday note, I am looking forward to getting utterly twatted at Slimelight on 21st December. I gather it is technoirangel's birthday celebration as well, so I expect to see all you lot there too. Current Music: Injected with a Poison - K90 | | Tuesday, November 5th, 2002 | | 5:22 pm |
About time I posted...
..not that anyone missed my, insightful views of the universe. It seems that the best way to get peoples true opinions of you on LJ is to have an acrimonious split and see which way supposedly mutual friends vote. While not furnished with all the details of the dj_alexander and zoomusicgirl...er...debate (and therefore, as an LJ rarity will not be chucking in my ill-informed and thoroughly prejudiced views into the mix) it seems to have spawned some seriously bad feeling. This leads me to 2 conclusions: 1) Venting of spleens is probably best done on friends-only posts, where you are guaranteed to get people on your side. 2) The only way I'll ever discover what you buggers really think of me is to acrimoniously split from dawnage | | Saturday, September 21st, 2002 | | 5:05 am |

Umfriendship...
...according to neenaw is what dawnage and myself have now. Dawn has, sadly, just disappeared off to Manchester to train as a teacher for a year (or maybe longer), so we have decided to split up. Fear not, however, there will be no editing of friends lists, arguments over custody of lj users (she would get the lot of you no doubt) or mpegs of lewd sexual practices posted on the net (sorry dcuk... So, as of now, Dawn is my um...friend. | | Friday, September 6th, 2002 | | 11:49 am |
Back to college
Been back since monday and I'm bored already. Not surprising really, seeing as I haven't started teaching yet (that begins on monday) and I have been reduced to filling my time with admin tasks and lesson plans. Lesson Plans? I much prefer the seat-of-pants-blagging-as-you-go route. Ought to write UCAS refs I suppose otherwise the poor sods who suffer my teaching won't get into university. |
